The Bearpath Community

The Eden Prairie Community

Location! Location! Eden Prairie is a suburban community of about 54, 484 people located in the southwest corner of Hennepin County in a setting of rolling hills and picturesque lakes and creeks. Eden Prairie is about 18 miles from downtown Minneapolis and 20 miles from St. Paul. The Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport is about 10 miles east of the city.

Employment

The employment base is approximately 50,000. Employment should reach 60,000 at full development. The employment base will parallel with population size. Jobs in the city include commercial/retail service, manufacturing, and trade industries. Because of its strategic location and the availability of land, hundreds of new companies have moved into Eden Prairie in the last 10 years. Large companies like American Family Insurance, G.E. Capital, and SuperValu have located their corporate headquarters in Eden Prairie. Many high-tech companies that produce and assemble computer components also have locateded in Eden Prairie. According to the 1990 Census, the City has a total labor force of about 30,000. The top three occupations of the city's work force are executive in nature.

Growth

Eden Prairie was Minnesota's fastest growing city from 1980 to 1990, with a 142% population increase over that time period. New residents continue to move into Eden Prairie at a steady rate. The population is expected to reach about 65,000 at full development, which the city assumes will occur by 2010. If a city has a life span like humans, Eden Prairie is middle-aged now and growth will start to slow down.

Parks

Over 2,250 acres! The Eden Prairie park system includes over 36 parks providing tennis courts, picnic areas, swimming, fishing and a giant tube slide at Staring Lake Park. A 500-seat amphitheater is the site for oncerts and plays throughout the summer months.

Trail System

70 miles of off-road trails connect the park system to area schools and shopping. There is access to all surrounding residential areas for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Community Center

As one of the finest in the state, it houses an indoor swimming pool, racquetball courts, exercise and weight training facilities, indoor skating rinks and a 6-lane pool There is a 130' water slide at Oak Point School.

Shopping

The Eden Prairie Center, a regional mall, is ten minutes from Bearpath and has currently undergone renovation adding multiple theaters and shops.
